Summary:

MHSA (mental health and substance abuse) is discussed and its national estimates on spending in 2003. Mental illness and substnce use conditions can impact any person no matter the age. $121 billion was spen on MHSA during 2003. Mental health spending received the largest share on youth. There were two methods SAMHSA survey and NHEA. These two methods were itergrated b adding expenditures by provider atter eliminating duplication across data sources. Substance Abuse spending Of the total was $21 billion.
